Italy wants to avoid EU infringement procedure – Deputy PM

The European Commission rejected Rome’s budget plan for 2019 demanding they submit a new draft asserting that Italy running a deficit of 2.4 per cent of GDP breaks EU rules.

Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte has said the expansive budget is necessary to finance key pledges and to boost growth.

Even with the threat of EU’s infringement procedure, Italy has not exactly backed down.
